Dining Service Changes Related to COVID 19

As recommended by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Service (CMS)communal dining (dining in dining rooms) has been discontinued until further notice. A key reason for the recommendation to cancel communal dining is linked to the concept of social distancing (i.e. limiting people being in close proximity to each other for periods of time; ideally people should keep about six (6) feet apart). Social distancing is recommended broadly across the public and recommended by CMS for facilities regarding resident interactions.  Communal dining is a common group activity that places residents in close proximity to each other.  This can spread the respiratory viruses.


Nutrition Services:  Food remains an important part of our lives and  we understand the importance of this for all our residents at Bethel.   COVID=19 is evolving and thus, so is our dietary department. The following is a brief update of recent changes.

  1. Currently we have implemented a one option menu. All meals are being plated in the main kitchen and served to residents in their rooms as appropriate.  We needed a system that consolidates dietary staff and supplies, a proactive approach due to potential staff changes. Dinner (the noon meal) continues to be our larger meat and potato meal, while supper is lighter and varies, ex. casseroles or sandwiches, as it did prior.  Our food and recipes are still the same, homemade, and we continue to provide soup every dinner and supper.  Supplements or snacks are provided between meals as needed or wished.
  2. Our clinical staff remains the same with 2 registered dietitians. Our clinical assessment process has not changed. The dietitians monitor weights, intake, and the overall health of your loved one.
