Phases of Re-Opening

July 23, 2020

Phase 1

Information on Phase 1 of re-opening, which is the phase that all care levels (assisted, basic, and skilled) of Bethel remain in and will for a period of time related to the increase in positive COVID-19 cases in Williams County. Also for skilled and basic care we had a positive resident on the testing completed July 9 and a positive employee on July 19 testing.

1.  Visitation within the facility is prohibited, except for compassionate end of life care situations.  In those limited situations, VISITORS NEED TO ADHERE TO THE UNIVERSAL SOURCE CONTROL GUIDANCE, which is to wear a clean, cloth face covering or facemask (over both nose and mouth), maintain social distancing of 6 feet, and perform appropriate hand hygiene upon entrance to the facility. If the visitor for the end of life care situation is unable or unwilling to wear the face covering their ability to enter the facility will be restricted.

2. As sent out in a previous alert scheduled outside visitation between residents and their families while exercising social distancing of 6 feet, donning of a clean, cloth face covering or facemask, and performing appropriate hand hygiene. The outside visit can be schedule through activities.

3. Restrict entry of non-essential healthcare personnel into the facility. We did visit with VP3 group today (07/22) and Pastor Sheldon will be returning to the facility full time.

4. Communal dining may occur for COVID-19 negative residents while exercising social distancing (limiting the number of people at tables and spaced by at least 6 feet). At this present time the smaller neighborhoods are eating in their dining rooms. Spacing doesn’t allow in the larger neighborhoods at this time. The VP3 group is discussing this with the state and there may be some changes made that would allow more residents at a table. Potentially later this week they will let us know of changes.

5. Limited group activities may occur internally for COVID-19 negative residents while exercising social distancing, donning a clean, cloth face covering or facemask, and performing appropriate hand hygiene. This is occurring at this time.

6. 100% screening of al individuals entering the facility, including facility staff prior to the beginning of their shift.

7. 100% screening occurs for all residents twice daily.

8. Related to the positives on skilled/basic there is enhanced precautions of wearing eye protection/visor in addition to the face mask.

July 2, 2020:

Hi Everyone.  Bethel Lutheran Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for all care levels has made the difficult decision to hold off moving into phase II of re-opening this week.  Bethel will re-evaluate next week. There has been an increase in the number of active COVID cases in Williams County and our utmost concern is the safety of our residents and staff.  Bethel has slowly been opening things up in the building. The activity room has been open for a week. Residents have been coming down and having coffee hour and activities, being mindful of the 6 feet social distancing and facial covering (mask) if resident tolerates. Frequent hand hygiene is provided. Cleaning is conducted of tables and chairs in between activities. Two dining rooms are open with a third being opened next week. Only one resident is placed at a dining room table with 6 foot social distancing maintained. After each dining service chairs and tables are wiped down. Arbor house has implemented the same process also. Bethel continues to restrict entry of non-essential healthcare personnel into both facilities. Non-medically necessary trips outside of the facilities for residents continue to be minimized as much as possible. 100% screening of all individuals entering the facility, including facility staff prior to the beginning of their shift for signs of COVID, including temperature check. 100% screening occurs for all resident twice daily for symptoms of COVID, including temperature and oxygen check. Facility staff wear surgical masks and face visors/safety glasses with residents wearing cloth masks (if tolerated) when out of room or when staff are present in room. Outside visits continue and if you desire an outside visit with your loved one please contact activities or at Arbor house the facility staff. Window visits are available, but the window must remain shut. Visit via phone, face time, etc. are available. Just a friendly reminder that when completing outside visit at a minimum 6 foot social distance and facial mask must be maintained. Please if you should have any questions or concerns let your social worker know or if at Arbor House contact Faye or Renee. Have a safe 4th of July.
